We feed in carbon steel hex stock and then turn, drill, cross drill, thread and bevel each piece. Finished parts drop off the end of the machine. This particular part was initially made in a small quantity for testing - however, the customer has now ordered multiple pieces.

Assembly Operations

At DFS, we can do parts assembly and other secondary operations for our customers. Santos is pictured assembling our 1/4 X 1 3/4" T-Anchors. This operation presses in the toggle head and roll pin to the anchor body. Every fastener is then hand-checked for toggle function.

Mr. Intensity

This is Dennis. He runs (3) of our Emco CNC machines (usually simultaneously) and doesn't slow down very often. Dennis works a lot of weekends, making sure we get the parts we need - and he gets his overtime. We like to hire farmers since they are very "hands-on" type of workers, and they know how to fix stuff. Guess what? Dennis is a farmer. He's also sometimes spotted on a cruise ship . . . or maybe in Mexico, drinkin' a few cervesas on the beach.

Some of our new "late model" machinery has this LED lighting that runs along-side the bar feeders.
It gives the operator a visual on the length of the steel bars (and how much material has been used).
These lights are neat. They brighten up the shop - and make a great conversation piece for our visitors!

The last few weeks we've been manufacturing these "rivet-like" stainless parts for a customer. Each part has a couple different tapers, so it can be pressed into place for proper fitment. They needed to be manufactured from stainless steel due to a corrosive environment. Before the Super Bowl ????

I guess a couple reasons for this is:
1. To keep some interest and not have a week with "no pro football" before the Super Bowl . . . and
2. Help strengthen interest in the Pro Bowl which has been sliding in the ratings the last few years.
I guess they will still rotate with Honolulu every few years. The NFL probably has a good idea here? The Pro Bowl selections who will play in the Super Bowl will not play. They don't care - they're in the big one anyway. The only players it will hurt would be those (1st year selections) who play in the Super Bowl. The real question is? Saints or Colts? Tacos or Pizza? Bud or Miller?

Today I spotted these spacers poppin' off one of our Hydromats. It may seem like a simple job to manufacture this part. Just cut to length, chamfer all edges, and drop 'em off the machine. However, to us - no job is too simple. We run test pieces and these parts require the same thorough inspection as all our parts. To our valued customer - these parts are very important, and we feel the same way.

Our big parts former was in full operation this morning. When a 5000 lb. coil of 1" dia. steel is being drawn and fed into this machine . . . it gets your attention ! I have to climb up about a 1/2 dozen stairs to get this photo. A quite impressive piece of machinery. This method is a very cost effective way to manufacture all types of parts. When you make stuff for other people, you have to make sure it's done right. They expect it from you. Nobody wants to pay for junk. It's not easy. We found some bad steel yesterday. It just wasn't forming correctly. The steel was soft in the middle like a jelly donut. We are lucky to have experienced operators that can troubleshoot and find a flaw when it rears it's ugly head. DFS has one of the best crews in the business. That's good for us - and you too !

That's why we call it the "war room." Toby is the Operations Manager and is responsible for getting the parts out the door.
